This is a piece of lambeg skin from Frank Orr,.

Frank is one of a handful of lambeg skin makers in N Ireland and comes from 5 generations of Lambeg makers, he has had a lifetime immersed in preparing lambeg skins, taught by his father and grandfather. These are the same skins that are used on  top quality lambeg-skinned bodhrans available from some makers.

This skin piece is square-ish with a minimum diameter of 22".

A skin of this size would be used on drums with a shell no larger than 19" which allows a minimum of 1.5" all around to facilitate tensioning and fixing.

This skin has undergone the initial lambeg treatment by Frank Orr but has not been lambeg 'doped'. Doping for lambegs works against the bodhran maker by making the skin harder and we have taken the skin before it undergoes this stage.

This skin has not been treated to make it more bassy. Each bodhran maker will have their own method for working the lambeg skin to produce the bass sound. Please note that we cannot provide advice on skin treatments because this information is proprietary to bodhran makers. We know that many people have had good results with using 'Lexol' leather conditioner.
